For Bruce, our founder, that journey began years before Transition Appraisals was established. Working closely with executors, trustees, and families during nearly two decades of operating an estate sale company provided a unique perspective on the responsibilities people carry when personal property becomes part of an important life transition.
Those experiences were reinforced personally through the administration of several family estates, providing firsthand insight into the decisions, uncertainties, and responsibilities that clients often face. Additionally, years spent volunteering at a Naval Museum (NMAS) gave him an appreciation for historical objects, their cultural significance and importance.
Over time, a natural curiosity about the objects themselves—their history, craftsmanship, significance, and value—led to a growing interest in professional appraisal. What began as one aspect of serving clients gradually became the work that proved most meaningful.
When the estate sale business had fulfilled its purpose, the transition to full-time appraisal was not the beginning of a new career as much as the continuation of a philosophy that had already been developing for years.

Throughout his career, Bruce has pursued advanced education in appraisal methodology, connoisseurship, valuation, expert witness practice, and numerous specialized areas of personal property. This continuing commitment reflects a belief that clients deserve opinions grounded not only in experience, but also in current professional knowledge and recognized appraisal standards.
Professional service has been an equally important part of that development. Leadership within the International Society of Appraisers, including service as Vice President of its Board of Directors, committee leadership, museum collaborations, volunteer service, and continued involvement throughout the appraisal profession have all contributed to the thoughtful, independent approach that guides Transition Appraisals today.
